Space Applications

Space Applications Services is an independent Belgian company founded in 1987, with head office in Zaventem, Belgium, an office in Noordwijk, the Netherlands and a subsidiary in Houston, USA. Its aim is to research and develop innovative systems, solutions and products, and provide services to the aerospace, security markets and related industries. Space Applications Services’ activities cover manned and unmanned spacecraft, earth observation, science, exploration, communications, launch/re-entry vehicles, terrestrial robotics and a wide range of technology developments.
The head office in Zaventem performs future project studies and develops technology in the following domains: space robotics, and mechanisms, avionics, AI, security and defence, payloads, crew systems and wearable devices, crew performance and health management.
The company has been involved in FP7, EDF, H2020 and Horizon projects in domains of security, police and search and rescue operations (FORLAB, GIFT, VALCRI, ICARUS). SpaceApps is also part of the large MCM contract from Naval Group (FR, BE, NL) to develop AI solutions and mission planning for marine robotics solutions. The Robotics Software & Intelligence division has a strong heritage in robotics software development for sensor fusion for PNT and mission planning for mixed robotic fleets.

Mr.Govindaraj

Mr.Govindaraj has 14+ years’ experience in the design and development of software and robotics systems. Mr. Govindaraj is the Division Manager of the Robotics Software and Intelligence Division in the Systems Department, at SPACEAPPS. He holds a bachelor in Computer Science and an M. Sc. in Advanced Robotics, with more than 3 years of industrial experience in embedded systems and 12+ years of robotics related software and systems development.
He is currently the Project Coordinator of Defence robotics projects [EDF: AIDEDEX], Space Robotics Project [EC: PRO-ACT] and ESA navigation related project [ESA: MAPP]. He has managed more than 12+ projects in the past across multiple domains of robotics encompassing middleware, computer vision, AI, neural networks, 3D printing controllers, robotic manipulators, mobile robot localization and mapping, and human robot interfaces.

Van Roy

In 2022, Mr. Van Roy obtained a Master’s Degree in Engineering Sciences – Computer Science, specialising in Human-Machine Interaction, from the Catholic University of Leuven.
Tigo Van Roy is a Software Engineer with expertise in Simulations, Extended Realities and Computer Vision. Currently, he is working in the Virtual Environments and Human Machine Interaction Team. Tigo will provide technical support to the main software developments of the VEHMI projects and contribute to documentation, testing, integration and validation tasks. As an addition to working within his current team, Tigo is assisting other teams with various Software Development tasks and assignments.

Mr. Romain Cabirol

Mr. Romain Cabirol, of French nationality, is a Software Engineer in the C4I Team of the Robotics, Software and Intelligence (RSI) Division. He holds an MSc. in Corporate Communication from the Sorbonne University (Paris, France) and was co-founder of Shift Capital (trading and risk management algorithms).
Romain is dealing with MOSAIC, the robotics control centre product software linked to MERLIN.
