OnAir

Established in 1995, OnAIR is an innovative Italian SME based in Genoa operating in the ICT sector, with a wide experience in Optimization, Data Analysis, Computer Vision and Machine/Deep Learning. OnAIR offers solutions in the areas of underwater sensing, advanced data processing, optimisation of transport and production systems, and audio/image/video recognition.
The target markets are industrial applications for logistics, scheduling, road, rail and ship traffic control, intelligent video surveillance, environmental monitoring and predictive maintenance. OnAIR owns a patent (EP2863257) for a smart underwater camera enabling continuous ecosystem surveillance by autonomous image acquisition and processing with specific AI algorithms implemented onboard. The system is currently in use in several marine observatories across Europe.
Since its establishment, OnAIR has dedicated most of its resources to R&D activities, participating in funded projects and collaborating in the creation of innovative prototypes and demonstrators. It maintains close links with the academic and research world (Universities and Research Centers), consolidated through many different joint activities. At present, the staff is composed of 9 full-time people, all with academic titles and research experiences in the IT field. OnAIR’s R&D structure has published over 40 journal articles and conference proceedings in the last 10 years.

Ennio Ottaviani – CEO and Scientific Director at On AIR srl

Graduated in Physics from the University of Genoa in 1982, he joined Elsag S.p.A. (now Leonardo S.p.A.), Research Department, where he become Project Leader in several research programmes about industrial computer vision and underwater data processing. In this position he developed new methods and algorithms for automatic classification of specific patterns in signals, images and video. Since 1999 until today, he is Chief Technology Officer at OnAIR, focusing on the application of Artificial Intelligence methods in industry and services automation, surveillance, smart manufacturing, precision agriculture, environmental and marine sciences.
President of the SINDBAD Consortium since 2020, which provides innovative Sea Situational Awareness solutions for commercial and tourist shipping.
Since 2001, he has been a professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Genoa, in the Mathematics and Statistics degree courses.

Marco Poggi – Project Manager at On AIR srl

Graduated in Environmental Engineering from the University of Genoa in 2022, responsible for environmental and marine monitoring applications, and in the acquisition and use of sonar data, including georeferenced data in GIS.
